Jeff had my phone for a bit and took a lot pictures...here are just a few from the evening:
We also celebrated GranJan's birthday that month - Brady watched the four wild children while the grownups went to an escape room. We did a girls vs. guys in two different rooms. Unfortunately, us gals didn't quite make it out before time was up.
We went back to our house afterward for more celebrating.

More August memories...Max and his crazy sleep positions...
Max loves to run (something he did not get from his mama...and something Lucy doesn't enjoy, either) so we decided to sign him up for the cross country team. Since he's so attached to Lucy, we thought it would be great to give him something of his own. Even though they aren't on the same teams, he and Lucy both play soccer, both play basketball, and both play t-ball / softball. This was meant to help build his confidence and individuality.
He was shy and nervous, of course, and he resisted but he went to a few practices. He was good! At one of the practices I took him to, I watched the kids start their run but then they ran out of my sight. Afterward, I asked him, "Max, did you keep running the whole time?"
I was simply wondering if he ever had to stop and walk at any point but he looked at my like I was crazy and said, "Sometimes we were supposed to jog so sometimes I was running fast and sometimes I was jogging."
The practices were at the Cold Spring Municipal park and after a long practice of continually running (or jogging!), he still had energy to play at the park afterward!
It was a big commitment, though - multiple practices per week plus long meets (not that we ever got to that point) and the season overlapped with soccer season. Even though he seemed to be good at it, he'd complain about going and we ultimately decided maybe he's still a little young and decided not to pursue the season (they gave a "trial period" at the beginning so kids could give it a try before committing and officially signing up). After the trial period, we decided to wait and try again next year.
Swim lessons! One day at Town & County, I let Max take off his puddle jumper to play around in the pool where he could reach. I was in there with him. At one point, he amazed me by going under water and swimming away! I signed him up for swim lessons after that so he could improve upon his self-taught skills.
