A farewell to Coney Island and more festival fun

We were so sad when we realized Coney Island wasn't doing their the Fall-O-Ween this year...but that sadness was nothing compared to how we felt when they announced that they were getting rid of all of their rides to completely focus on the pool.

Of course we loved their Fall-O-Ween event but we've also tried to go at least once or twice a year to hang out and ride the rides. We weren't season pass holders and we didn't spend a lot of time & money there but it was definitely a cherished summer memory that we looked forward to making each year. We were pretty devastated and made plans to go one last time - on September 14 - before they got rid of the rides.

We invited Aunt Amy and Grandma to join us in our last Coney hurrah.

The first thing they rode was the Frog Hopper - they ended up riding it quite a few times before the day was through.

I didn't want to be a party-pooper but I wasn't too interested in riding the scrambling ride - luckily, Grandma and Aunt Amy were up for it because Lucy was not taking no for an answer! I rode the little roller coaster with her and I got on the flying bobs once or twice that day but I successfully avoided the scrambler.

Max and I watched and waited

Next, we went on a boat ride in a paddle boat - Grandma did the watching and waiting this time.

After that, the kids wanted to ride the viking ship. I really didn't want to ride it. I had a headache as soon as we got there and Terry gave me an ibuprofen but it hadn't kicked in yet. But again, I didn't want to be a party pooper - and we were here to make the most of our very last Coney adventure - so I got on the dang thing anyway.

At least I got some good pictures...but let's just say - I never should have stepped aboard that ship...

They did the little bumper cars (they're called the "Fender Benders" - how cute is that?!) on their own and then Max and I drove together in the bigger version.

Max had a soccer game that morning and we ate lunch at Skyline after the game - but then we headed straight to Coney and stayed basically until they closed. But we had to stop for a treat after a while!

And later in the afternoon, Aunt Nikki, Uncle Steven & Jillian came up for a bit and hung out with us. Max and Jillian had fun playing with leaves!

Later, Lucy wanted to ride the viking ship again. I wasn't getting anywhere near that thing and Max didn't want to do it, either...in fact, Lucy was kind of on her own in wanting to ride it again - SO SHE DID! I was so surprised and impressed with my girl - she was all smiles riding it alone!

We took another ride around the lake. This time, we took the big swan paddle boat - so we all could fit!

Next - Ferris wheel time! Max rode with Aunt Amy & Lucy rode with Grandma while I took pics.

Lucy wanted to end the day on the flying bobs again but I just couldn't do it. Max wanted to ride, too, so Aunt Amy was game to partner up with him. Lucy was tall enough and was totally up for riding alone so she did!

That's another reason I am so sad to see the Coney rides go - Lucy can be pretty timid and sometimes she get too scared to try new things - things we know she'd love if she could only be brave enough to try. She was totally brave at Coney! She was the fearless one when it's normally Max...but we definitely made the most of our last Coney adventure!

The next day, we went to two festivals.
First, the Big Top festival at Woodfill.

We met up with Donna and Ashley for a bit and hung out with them and played a few games. We entered our names into some drawings for some really cool baskets and were very disappointed when we didn't get a call later saying we'd won.

But after about an hour at Woodfill, we left to meet up with Uncle Jason, Jessica & her parents, GranJan & Grandpa and Auntie Ema, Luke and Ellie. Jess had invited us all to meet up at St. Barb's in Erlanger. We'd never been to their festival (called Rocktoberfest) but it was awesome! It was insanely hot that day but the festival was a lot of fun. Tons of rides, lots and lots of game booths + fun games and drinks for the adults, too (at least it looked like it from kiddieland...)

Lucy was obsessed with winning a can of Pringles - and also pretty pumped to ride a giraffe on the carousel!

The boys loved this little dragon roller coaster. Unfortunately, Lucy was just a little bit too tall for it and they would't let her ride.

They tried to cool off with a Kona Ice but we were all drenched in sweat so we left and headed back to GranJan and Grandpa's house for dinner.

What a perfect weekend!
