They did some ballet stretches and practiced a few feet positions and then they did some tumbling - they each did a couple of forward rolls on the mats, plus a "mermaid walk" where they pulled their bodies across the mat while keeping their legs straight and flat, then a "crab walk."
But everyone's favorite is tapping!!
She was a little distracted in class by a loose string in her tights...her teacher noticed her playing with it and obsessing over it - so she walked right over with scissors and cut the string! I knew what was about to happen and was surprised the teacher - a dancer who surely has worn many a pair of tights - didn't seem to know. Because if she thought Lucy was distracted by a loose string she hadn't seen nothin' yet! Within seconds of the cut, there was a giant hole in her tights and her whole knee was hanging out! She looked over at me and loudly whispered, "Mom! Can you fix this?!"
I picked this costume up after Halloween at Kroger last year for $3 and packed it away. She wanted to try it on this weekend - her finger is her hook and she's saying "Arrrr!" |
Look at this sweet little girl!
Now normally, I hate when people who know who you are pretend that they don't...but on Saturday, I was grateful.
The kids and I were at the library and I saw one of Dave's former runners walk in with her daughter. We made eye contact and just as I was about to say hello, she turned away. Whatever.
Her daughter stayed in the kid's area while she went to look for a book for herself. Several kids were playing and Lucy was going back and forth between a few things and settled on some blocks. She and I built a couple of towers but more blocks were off to the side.
The little girl kept looking up at us from her coloring page and finally came over and picked up some of the blocks off to the side. Lucy jumped up and immediately started to pout. I told her, "She can play, too; there are plenty of blocks."
"No!"
Again, I told her she needed to share and reminded her that these were the library's toys and we needed to play together.
A little louder: "No! I was going to play with those!"
I told her to get her jacket so we could leave if she wasn't going to be nice...and then she ran away from me!
I grabbed her arm - and she pulled it out of her sleeve! - I guess she was trying to get away and leave me holding a shirt...I was able to keep ahold of her and she started throwing Max's toys onto the ground.
With both kids and the car seat and our library bag and my purse and Maxy laying on a blanket, I couldn't make as quick an escape as I'd have liked and Lucy started screaming and crying! Aagh! She was LOUD and was making quite the scene.
We finally dashed out of there - without borrowing any books - but I was so glad I hadn't just chatted up the mom of the girl who Lucy wouldn't share with...
She's lucky she's so cute and funny...most of the time! |
