I got this dress from a site called ScreamingOwl.com and it was a big hit! My dad, especially, loved her look, calling her "lovely." She wore it to her cousin Luke's first birthday party...Happy Birthday, Lute!
She fell asleep on the way to the party (because she refused to nap, saying she wasn't tired...right...) and must have woken up on the wrong side of the car seat because for the first twenty minutes or so of the party she wasn't too lovely at all...
But once she got over it, she had a lot of fun with Lucia and with Cleo.
Lucy recently got invited to go to King's Island with GranJan, Donna and Ashley and from the looks of the photos they text me throughout the day, she had a blast! Though I was a little sad not to be able to experience it with her (it was her first time there), I was very excited for her and grateful that she had this opportunity with some of her best friends!
The last time we were at the zoo, we rode the carousel a couple of times but she just wanted to be on a stationary animal...at King's Island, she rode on animals that moved up and down and she loved it!
She's been as funny as ever lately...some memorable Lucy lines of late:
She starting to figure out the concept of time and measurements and the corresponding terminology but she's not quite got a full grasp.
Like one night as I was trying to coax her into the tub and get ready for her bedtime routine she asked, "Can't I play for a little bit first - like for 3 little hours?"
Or on a Saturday morning when I ask what time she got up, she says "11:00" when it's still only 8am.
Or yesterday in the car on the way home from school. She says, "Mommy, I missed you a couple but I missed Daddy a LOT!"
The other night she asked Dave, "What's the big news today?"
She was telling Dave something recently and asked, "You didn't know that, did ya, Big Guy?" and has since called him "Big Guy" several times.
Pretty hair...look at those highlights! |
Off to school in her Olaf shirt from Donna |
Recently she's been telling everyone that Pocahontas is her favorite princess. She has a little Pocahontas figurine that I'd gotten long ago in a bag of princess toys at a yard sale and it's been her favorite toy of late. She'd never even seen Pocahontas before...but she's her favorite!
She was given a $25 Target gift card by one of my coworkers a couple of months ago so I thought maybe we'd check for the Pocahontas DVD. They didn't have it (though we were able to borrow it from the library last Thursday!) but she spied this Barbie movie and decided to use some of her Target money to buy it. We've already watched it several times...she loves it!
We've had some bedtime struggles lately and decided to implement a bedtime chart where she earns stars for going to bed like a big girl. Once she earns a whole row, she gets to choose a prize from the prize bag. Going to bed like a big girl includes brushing teeth and going potty without a fight, heading upstairs when told without whining, and going to sleep without calling down to us for a ridiculous reason. She'd started getting creative - It's too dark! I'm cold; cover me up! I miss you! - and it was out of hand.
One night recently, she insisted on sleeping with her Pocahontas figurine. She's about 2 inches tall and made of plastic, like an army guy (but taller). So not soft and cuddly and an ideal bedtime partner...but whatever. Soon after being put to bed, she called down so right away, Dave and I said to each other, "No star!"
But when we called up to ask what she wanted, she said, "Pocahontas is stuck in my hair!" We laughed so much that we decided it shouldn't cancel her star-earning.
Last week she earned the final star in a row and was able to pick a prize. She chose the finger paint:
A true artist uses more than just their fingers for finger painting...and a true artist is not limited to a piece of paper. Dave took one peek in the kitchen and high-tailed it out of the house!
I stuck her in the shower and let her play around for a bit but then we had to turn the shower into a bath to really get her clean. I wiped down the kitchen while she played in the tub - so, yeah, the clean up took as long as the painting itself but it wasn't too hard to clean up and I'd say it was definitely worth it.
We have been pleasantly surprised by how well Lucy has adapted to the new member of the family. She's very patient with Max and usually with us - she understands that Max has to be tended to and is usually pretty patient about waiting for someone to play with her, etc. At first it seemed like such a breeze with not a single negative effect.
However, she has become a nail-biter. She's constantly chomping on her fingernails and has even bitten them so short that they hurt a couple of times! This upsets me because I was a nail-biter, too, and my nails were always so gross! I was ashamed of them and hid my hands whenever I could and I just don't want that for her. Plus it's just gross to see her hands in her mouth all of the time. Dave is quite the nail-biter, too (I finally quit biting mine sometime after high school), but I'm not sure if she's picked it up from watching him or if it's associated with the change in her world (new baby brother...).
Bed time has become an issue, like I mentioned, but it seemed like that was before Max's arrival, too, so who knows what the deal is there...
She's been acting out more than usual in the past few weeks, though. She's frequently telling us "No!" and has been doing some screaming / crying and has been refusing to cooperate with us a lot more. She does "Stretch and Grow" at school on Wednesdays and loves it! However, the past two weeks, she's told us that she didn't do it. Yesterday morning when Dave got her up, he mentioned Stretch and Grow and she got so excited! But on the way to school, in her awesomely pouty voice, she said she didn't want to do Stretch and Grow. When I picked her up, she confirmed that she did NOT do it...because she missed us too much...
She also loves going to Daddy's softball games...she has so much fun with her friends, playing in the dirt and running around. Last Thursday when I picked her up at school, I reminded her we had a softball game to go to that night and she got really excited. But within a half an hour of being home, she turned into pouty, whiny Lucy and was saying she didn't want to go. I didn't have the energy to deal with her attitude plus take care of Max at the field so we did, indeed, skip the game.
Oh and one night last week, Max was crying while Lucy was trying to watch TV. Typically, she is so focused on the TV that she has no clue what's going on around her...but on this particular night I guess Max's cries broke her TV hypnosis and she told us, "Can you put Max on the porch?"
Um...no.
She does love this baby guy, though - there's no denying that! |
