First trip to the dentist!

Lucy recently (on July 15) went to the dentist for the first time.  We chose Dr. Rider in Highland Heights because his name was on the list of recommendations from Dr. D, and because that's who Dave saw as a child and he liked him.

So to make my record-keeping easy on myself, I will spell it out...
First trip to the dentist - about 2 years and 4 months old

We talked about it a lot and discussed what would happen at the dentist, trying to prepare the girl for a smooth visit and I think it must have worked!  The visit went very well and Lucy actually had a good time!

She opted not to sit in the patient chair while the dentist or hygienist were in the room taking a look in her mouth, but in-between?  She was all about it!  She "played dentist" with us - she introduced herself to us as "Dr. Dentist" and said, "Let me look in yours mouth" and made us say "aah!" and all kinds of other adorable things.

Dave knew the hygienist - a former student - and she was so sweet!  She loved Lucy and we all loved her...she made such a big deal over our girl...telling her no one has ever opened their mouth as wide as her, sat as still as her, been as good a first-time patient as her, etc.  She cleaned her teeth and looked around in her mouth and Lucy even sat nice and still and let her floss those little chompers...she told Lucy she earned three prizes and the two of them disappeared to pick out some treasures.

Lucy had a bit of build-up behind her bottom front teeth and she was also very good while they scraped it off.  So she earned three little prizes and also walked away with some stickers and a brand new toothbrush!  Though she wanted to sit on my lap this time, I doubt she'll have a problem going back by herself next time if they want her to (that is their goal - to eventually have the child go back without their parents).
