Happy birthday, Daddy!

Lucy and I went to the Dollar Tree again this year to do some special shopping - her gifts to her Daddy for his 34th birthday!  Last year we went to the one by our house - on Martha Layne Collins.  Recently, Lucy and I learned the hard way that it had closed up so this year we went to the one in Alexandria.  This one is twice the size of our old one so my little shopper was a bit overwhelmed with a lot more choices!  We were on a time limit but I think she did a great job!

Of course the first thing she saw when we walked in was something she just had to have...for herself.  She told me she's been needing a lantern and when she spotted this flamingo one, I guess she knew it was meant to be...

But then she got busy and did her Daddy shopping.  We had to hurry home and decorate his birthday cake before GranJan and Grandpa came over to go out to dinner with us.

We went to the new City BBQ which is basically at the top of our street...yummy stuff!  After dinner we went back home for cake and presents.

The first order of business was for the birthday boy to put on his party hat!

I'd told Lucy she could pick five gifts out for her dad but she talked me into seven perfect presents.  The first one he opened was...a brand new moustache!
He also ended up with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles magic towel, work gloves, a loufa, a laundry bag, sparkly number stickers (not pictured) and silly string!
My friend Christa said she's a little worried about Lucy -
this lot seemed like criminal supplies to her...
a disguise, gloves to mask fingerprints, spray for the victim's eyes,
a loufa to clean it all up and a bag to discard the evidence!

Maxy wanted to give the moustache a try!
As my dad would say...He's a handsome devil!

Lucy definitely wanted to get her dad the silly string...but she said she also needed a can for herself - green for him, pink for her.  She told GranJan they were going to have "a string fight" that night at bedtime...While that wasn't the best time for a "string fight," she did challenge him the next day.

Later that weekend, we got to celebrate more with a grill out - and more cake! - at Grandma and Troy's house!

Happy birthday, Dave!
