Happy Independence Day!

We started our 4th of July weekend off with a trip to the YMCA pool on Friday night...we packed a dinner and ate up there, which the kids love doing.
Picnic!
The next day, the kids and I walked up to Busken for breakfast.  Max ate his donut like a wild animal...and while Lucy was a little more civilized, she ended up with a pretty messy face, too!

We tried to get an appointment next door at Ejay's for a Max to get his wild mane tamed but they couldn't get us in for about 35 minutes...so we walked home to deliver a donut to Daddy and then headed back up.  Lucy talked me into getting her hair cut, too - she lost another 4-5 inches!

Later that day, we met up with Grandma & Troy at their river camp.  Lucy loved walking along and throwing rocks into "the ocean."

Max especially loved the golf cart rides!  They both loved running around outside.

That night, Daddy and Lucy finally got to put the tent he got for his birthday last year to good use and had their very first camp-out (Max and I slept in a bed inside a camper).

On Monday morning, we went to GranJan & Grandpa's house and walked down in the rain to watch the parade.  It was raining pretty steadily on the walk to our watching spot but it stopped by the time we got there - still, all of the candy we caught was pretty soggy (yet tasty!)

It was still a pretty crummy day so we didn't go to the pool but had fun with friends at GranJan & Grandpa's house.

Max & Lucy's June memories

June 2
Max had the most severe case of hand-foot-mouth I've ever seen at the end of May / beginning of June.  Do a Google image search if you dare and look at the disgusting examples - his was as bad as some of those nasty pics out there.  Lucy had it at 7 months old but it was very mild - just a scattering of tiny, faint red dots on her feet.  Max's were NOT faint and were NOT just dots - he had blisters.  But I got to spend a lot of one-on-one time with him since he couldn't go to a sitter's house and spread that crap.  By the last day I stayed with him, he was looking and feeling much better and stomped around the house in my boots which I'd worn to the Dixie Chicks concert the night before.

That night, I even let him out of quarantine and we went to the mall for a bit with GranJan.  He and his sister sweet-talked GranJan out of all of her quarters to ride the space shuttle and car and airplane and helicopter...then they got cookies, too!

Daddy was finally out of school for the summer and got to stay home with him the next day.  They had fun playing in the backyard.  Max likes the little chair Great Grandpa made for Lucy a year or two ago.

June 4
On Saturday, our amazing library had their Summer Reading Kick-Off party.  The kids and I headed up there to sign up and play and color and craft - and have hot dogs for lunch (with ketchup, of course!) and Kona Ice for dessert!  They even got to hang out with their cousins, Alli & P!

Crazy cousin picnic!

We hadn't been to the YMCA to swim in awhile but now that the outdoor pool is open, Lucy and I were itching to check it out.  We headed up for a bit later that night before dinner while the boys stayed home for some male bonding.  Lucy and her Shoppies dolls gave their stamps of approval!

June 5
We knew Maxyboy would love it, too, so we took him with us the following day:

Lucy wouldn't do the slide even though Max did it!  He's way braver (and crazier) than her!

2016 vs 2013 / Max vs Lucy:

June 5-6
Max loves the ball pit he got for his birthday so much!  He dives in there like he's diving into a swimming pool.  He loved wrestling Lucy's purple blow-up unicorn and Max finally defeated it -  Unicorn got a big hole and had to be thrown away.  Lucy hopes to win a new one at the St. Joe's festival in August!

Lucy continues to take gymnastics on Monday night and continues to love it.  She's finally starting to show some skill and improvement - she can flip on the rings and is perfecting her cartwheel.
Max's current obsession: "Me cut grass back yard."

He thinks the table of his play kitchen is a seat...
He's going to break it with that big booty!
June 7
Most Tuesday nights, the kids and I go to the Newport branch of the library for PJ Time with Ms. Joan.  We recently found out that Ms. Joan is retiring at the end of summer and we're bummed so we're trying not to miss a Tuesday night while we still have her!  My little artists made some chalky scenes recently:

June 8
Max has cut back to just one day a week in the summer at Ms. Shelly's house.  He gets to goof off with his friends on Wednesdays.
He loves having the bigger kids there, too - he loves hugging Sadie and wrestling with Big Max (or BooBoo, as the little kids call him).

June 9
We love going to Daddy's softball games on Thursday nights!
They especially love the 7:10 games...if Don's Bunch plays at 6:10, that means there is another game afterward.  If they play at 7:10, the kids get to run on the field after the game (and get even dirtier!).

I don't think one little wipey is going to help this dirty dog!

June 10
My phone is constantly telling me I am almost out of storage and often prevents me from taking any pictures.  Sometimes it will let me take one photo and then give me the beloved error message "Cannot take photo."
However, if Lucy happens to get a hold of my phone, she can take dozens of photos with no problem!  Anyone want me to print them a copy of a picture of my ceiling fan?  I have 47 options for you to choose from...

"Mom, let's take a selfie!"

June 11-12

More library fun - Princess Ariel stopped by for a visit!

And on Sunday, we met some friends at the Y to swim and eat lunch...such fun!

Max is obsessed with his puddle jumper and wouldn't even take it off to eat lunch!

Lucy and Ava love spending time together!  And we saw several other school friends that day, too.

More silliness:
Standing in a little pot...

Playing with Play-Doh and "goo goo"

June 13
Believe it or not, my giant baby still sleeps in a swing at Ms. Shelly's house!  But doesn't he look soooo sweet?!

Lucy has been going to "camp."  One of the owner's of her preschool (Kids & Cribs) has opened a new school (Natural Start Preschool) and they offered day camps over summer.  She went one week and liked it so much, we signed her up for two more partial weeks.  Here she is with some of her besties: Ava, Karys, my little cutie, Lucy R, and Sammy.

While Lucy is at gymnastics, Maxy and Mommy get to play - recently, we went to Friendship Park and Maxy loved the big slide.  Lucy wouldn't get on that thing until she was about 4 years old but Maxy climbed on up & slid right down again and again!

June 17
Festival fun!  We met up with Grandma and Troy at the St. Therese festival - the Kona Ice was their favorite part!  They played a few games and won a few prizes but they might have had the most fun playing in landscaping rocks and climbing a tree...weird little monkeys!
Unfortunately, I didn't get any pics of them in the tree because I was making sure they didn't fall.

June 19
Happy Father's Day, Daddy!
Daddy and Max got to drop by Lucy's school for Donuts with Dad...yum!

Daddy golfed on Father's Day while the kids and I played all morning and then went to spend time with Grandpa & Great Grandpa but then we met up with Daddy at the other Grandpa's house...fun day!

They had fun cruisin' around in the car Max got from Uncle Jason for his birthday...and they wanted me to get the Frozen motorcycle Lucy got from GranJan & Grandpa for Christmas out, too...they rode around in style until the batteries died.

Then we moved onto the backyard for more fun - sandbox, water table and sprinkler!

June 25
Yet another library adventure - this time, the Cincinnati Museum Center visited with a program called "3...2...1...Blastoff!" where we learned a little bit about the planets.  It was interactive and the kids got to play with inflatable planets and walk around the sun...and with with remote control space shuttles!

Happy Summer!!
More YMCA'ing...they love it there! We've gone in the evening several times - often on Fridays, sometimes on Saturdays - and it's been perfect...not too crowded.  On the day we met Lucy's friends there, we arrived before it opened and had to wait and within an hour or two, they posted a sign on the door that they weren't letting anyone else in at the moment.  When my kids and I left that day, there were several swim-suited families waiting in the lobby for their turn...I don't think Lucy & Max (or Dani!) would have had the patience for that!
