He spent the day with friends at Ms. Shelly's house and they had a pizza party to celebrate!
I like to take the day off work on my kids' birthdays but Max had his 2-year doctor visit the next day so I took off on Tuesday instead.
Lucy had gymnastics on his birthday so the whole family went to watch her - and then we went for ice cream after to celebrate our baby guy!
He loved his gift from Lucy - ColorWonder pages and markers |
The next day, he and I had our special birthday date...we started at Busken where he couldn't decide between a cookie and a donut - he literally kept yelling, "Donut! Cookie! Donut! Cookie!" He finally settled on a cookie and I got a donut...and he ate both!
Next, we went to see Dr. Brokaw.
Max just wanted to get this part of the day over with so we could go party!
He wasn't too pleased to see the nurse reappear once Dr. Barry said goodbye to give him his HepA vaccine...
His stats:
31.6 pounds (86%)
34.25 inches tall (46%)
Lucy's age 2 stats - very similar:
31.2 pounds (91%)
33.5 inches tall (40%)
But soon enough it was time to go to the library - he cashed in his bday post card for a little basketball hoop and ball. We played there for a bit but then headed to the children's museum.
It was COLD out that day! |
Sand table fun |
He completely commandeered this lawnmower... and if he abandoned it for a second to look at something else, he freaked out when someone else snagged it |
My favorite picture of my happy boy from the day |
My boy enjoyed a lot of celebrating in his honor - his party was Sunday, May 15, he partied at the babysitter's on Monday, he and I had a birthday date on Tuesday...by Wednesday he was disappointed to go back to normal!
His party was a big success - we went with a sports ball theme and he loved the balls everywhere! He loved his football cake and sporty cupcakes GranJan made and couldn't wait to get his hands on them!
Sweet little 2-year-old! |
It was a nice day and everyone had fun playing outside, too.
He got a lot of really fun new toys and clothes as gifts but also got some giant surprises - Mom & Dad got him a ball pit and Uncle Jason got him a motorized car!!
Where's the birthday boy? |
He had a great time celebrating with all of his favorite people but turning 2 is definitely tiring stuff! He was wiped out by the end of the party!
Max at 2
Favorite foods:
Ketchup! He likes dipping hot dogs and chicken and burgers but would probably be happy to just eat a bowlful of ketchup (as gross as that sounds)
He's recently discovered sausage biscuits for breakfast and loves them but most mornings when he wakes up, he wants a "snack" so he starts his day with a bowl of dry Apple Cinnamon Cheerios or Fruit Loops
Every night he wants a snack and usually chooses mini marshmallows
Favorite activities:
Being outside
He likes to play in water but hates getting wet - if he accidentally pours water on himself while playing at his water table, he grabs at his clothes and cries "Wet, wet!" until we take him inside to change...
He loves the ball pit he got for his birthday and dives into it and ends up kicking most of the balls out several times a day
He likes books and is getting a little bit better about letting us actually read to him (instead of turning the pages or throwing the book or simply walking away)
Obsessions:
He is obsessed with sunglasses! Whenever we're about to leave the house, he yells "Sunglasses" and runs into the dining room to choose a pair from the bin (I've purchased him several manly pairs but he usually chooses Lucy's hot pink striped ones or the Ariel pair which Dave loves)
Shoes! He always wants his shoes on and often fights us about taking them off at nap time so I usually give up and let him sleep with his shoes on. He also loves finding our shoes for us and trying on everyone else's shoes
He still loves brooms...and mops and "shovels" (dustpans) and vacuums
Now he loves lawnmowers, too
He loves Daddy's shed and loves looking out the dining room window and chattering about the shed and everything inside of it (Daddy's broom, Daddy's shovel, Daddy's lawnmower, Max's lawnmower, the wagon...)
He loves his blanket - when we tell him it's time for nap or bed, he always needs his blanket (no specific blanket - any one will do) and his B and his sleep sheep. He holds his blankey up to his cheek - so cute!
Sayings:
How do kids have a way of being hysterical yet super-annoying at the same time??
Max's new thing is saying, "In a minute," as in - (Me) "Max, it's time for dinner" (Max) "In a minute!" as he runs away...
"TV on!" Whenever he walks into the living room, he demands that the TV be on...he rarely slows/settles down enough to watch it but he always wants it on. He does like to watch tv in the mornings when he first wakes up and always requests "the mouse" (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)
He has started counting - but really just says "three" a bunch of times...
