Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I wish I could remember what she was saying when I took this
but it's still funny, even without a story
Cute hair compliments of babysitter Tammy, some fun at the park on a warm day and a visit to Daddy's school!

Look what our little artist made for her door!
Lucy got to celebrate her birthday with her friends Dominic and Talia on Tuesday at Tammy's house and they got her a new Little Einsteins computer!  She loves it because she is completely obsessesed with the Little Einsteins!
Thanks, Cassessas!

Crazy town

Just a quick "Lucy lately" post to tide you over until I have 2 year old things to write about!

I love when she crosses her feet at the ankles like that while relaxing on the couch!

She came home from babysitter Fawn's house with this adorable hairstyle one day last week and she seemed to know just how cute she looked!  She modeled the hair and an outfit Grandma and Grandpa Meyers got her awhile ago which was amazing because lately she can sense when I really want to take her picture and she totally messes with me...she'll either sit and smile and jump up just before I snap it (and laugh evilly in the process!) or simply say "No!" and giggle and run away...

By the time I picked her up on this particular day, it was sunny and practically warm outside!  But she and Dominic had fun in the melting snow that morning while Talia and Roxy looked on jealously from inside!

These moments don't last long, as my dad found out...embrace them while they last
because 3 minutes after I took this pic, she'd slid off his lap and down to the floor

On Saturday we had some errands to run - namely, to pick up a few things for her upcoming birthday party and to pick up one more small gift for Sam's 5th birthday.  She loves perusing Toys R Us and spent quite a bit of time playing with this train table on display.  There were three trains and one was smaller than the other two and I heard her playing, making one of the larger trains say, "Come on, baby!"  I asked her to tell me about the trains and she showed me the mama, the daddy and the baby!  I love watching this girl play and am so proud of her when she uses her imagination.

Later that day, it was nice enough to play outside so we went to "Chutes and Ladders" (after getting her pink car out of the shed, which she thought was pretty cool):

She put the sunglasses on by herself at one point (pic on right) - upside down, but still doing the trick!

We went after lunch...she was clearly finished with it while we were inside
but insisted on taking it with her anyway...she stuck it in the trunk of her car
and got it out as soon as we got there...and yes, she ended up finishing it after all!

I was sitting on the step watching her play and she came over and sat with me
and said "Watch cars, Mama" so we watched the cars go by together!

Party girl at Sam's bash!

Yesterday I decided on a whim that I'd take the girl to the Newport Aquarium.  We have a pass and she's been so obsessed with birds lately and I know they have a lorikeet area.  Every time we're outside, Lucy spots a bird and follows it until it eventually flies away and she yells, "Come back NOW!"  It's pretty funny...but also kind of sad, trying to explain to her that the bird will not be coming back...and usually the lorikeets are a-plenty at the aquarium and zoo and are walking on the ground and on low branches and don't flitter away when you get too close.  We finally made it into the lorikeet area (and it was very anti-climatic...there weren't very many birds in there and they were really high up, but Lucy didn't even care) but at first all she wanted to do was sit on a bench with her snack.  I thought I left work early and brought you to the levee to eat snacks??  And they were her own snacks from home!  Ha!  But she ended up exploring and having a nice time.

She took the picture on the left and then agreed to cooperate and let me take the other one.

She's getting so big!  As big as a pyjama catshark, in fact!

Once they closed, we walked over to the bookstore.  Another train table!  She had the area to herself for a bit but eventually a little boy walked up and put his hand on one of the trains on the other side of the table.  I was a few feet away and heard her make a little noise and I looked over to see a distressed look on her face.  I did the sign for "share" and while she may have rolled her eyes at me, she calmed herself and allowed the little boy to play, too.

Skyline for dinner afterward!

Someone's got a birthday coming up!  Guess what the theme is!

23 months old - stats

Just a month shy of 2 years old and here's where she's at:

She weighs 31 pounds and 1.5 ounces
She is 34 inches tall

She has started calling me "mommy" occasionally which sounds sooo strange every time since up until recently, she has only called me "mama" (and, of course, she has also taken to calling me "Dani" now and then - and she called for "Dave" just the other day).

Her baby obsession continues and she always likes to have one with her (she usually does not care which one).

She's funny - she constantly makes us laugh...last night, she went upstairs with me to pick out pj's - but like every time we go up to "pick out jammies," she starts emptying her pants drawer.  It's kind of her thing.  She pulled out a pair and stretched them over her head and declared, "Hat!"

She's tricky - she still requires us to rock her to sleep - but does she pull that crap with the babysitters?  NO.  In fact, Tammy says when Lucy is ready, she is ready!  She will find her blanky and stand at the bottom of the stairs and say "nap," and does not take no for an answer if Tammy is busy with Dominic or Talia...then Tammy takes an awake Lucy upstairs and puts an awake Lucy in bed and Lucy does not stand back up and cry...she...goes to sleep!

She's sweet - last week, Dave walked into the room and she did three hops over to him yelling, "Daddy!  Daddy!  Daddy" as she went and gave him a big hug.
Last night we were heading into our final swim lesson and I was carrying Lucy and telling Dave I was a bad mama because she was barefoot (because she always takes her shoes off in the car anyway so I'd just stuck them in the bag) and Lucy said, "No, good mama."

Yes, swim lessons are over.  Our weekdays are going to slow down - I think we all got used to the slightly rushed feel of Tuesdays and Thursdays when we hurry home, make and eat dinner, pack a bag for swimming and dash out the door.  But before we know it, track season will be in full swing and Lucy and I will be rushing off to watch "Coach Daddy."

Last weekend, neither Dave nor I could get the girl to take a nap.  It was the day of Grandma and Aunt Amy's birthday dinner and we really wanted her to get a little nap in.  We have a nap cutoff - no sleeping past 3:30 (even if she does not fall asleep until 3pm), or else we can't get her to bed at night - and that time was approaching.
Saturday was a beautiful day, and I remembered how walks used to put her straight to sleep when she was a baby and figured it was worth a try.  She bundled up into her stroller with her blanky and Buddy and I put a blanket overtop to block the sun and wind.  I made the mistake of walking along 27, thinking the traffic noises would be similar to Buddy's sound.  We got to St. Joe's and she was still awake so as I strolled around the parking lot, I text Dave that it wasn't happening.  But the next time I looked in (about two minutes later), she was sound asleep!  I guess the traffic was a little too noisy.  I had a nice walk and she had a nice nap!
